Selective Reading Guides
English Language Arts Standards
Strand: Literature
Topic: Key Ideas and Details
Standard Statement: RL.5.1. Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Section of the Text
I would use this strategy with the whole chapter from pages 8-17
Rationale
I chose this strategy because it requires students to read the text to answer the questions. I also chose it because it can help students grasp the main ideas of the chapter and have a reference guide while completing other assignments associated with the chapter.
What I Want to Accomplish
With selective reading guides, I want the students to be able to get an idea of what kinds of information to look for in a text in order to get the main ideas. I also want them to have their own reference sheet that they can use for the rest of the chapter as well as for the rest of their lives.
Steps in this Strategy
Materials
Textbook, Pen or Pencil, Reading Guide Worksheet
