The Fry Readability Test said that this chapter is written at 2nd Grade Reading Level and the text is a 5th grade text book. Since it is a math book, there are not a lot of words and sentences grouped together. It is very chopped up and in pieces. There is not very much vocabulary in the text other than the highlighted words. Some of the biggest words in the tested selections were "explanation" and "thousandths" and even these words are not very big. I think that by having the reading level significantly lower than the grade level, that will ensure that most of the students understand the text.
Even though the students will be able to understand and comprehend the text, some may not be challenged enough and need more of a challenge to keep focused. In order to accommodate these students, I will use supplementary material and other work to keep students challenged and focused. I could do things like computer work, extra worksheets, workbooks, games, and group projects to keep the students focused and engaged.
